Species Info:

This lifeform is found in Indonesia. This lifeform is frequently domesticated.

Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) probably originated in the islands of eastern Indonesia. However, this species is now found growing wild in Malaysia. It can be up to 80 feet tall. The fruit is highly praised and highly prized as some maintain that wonderful health benefits may be derived from eating it. The tree is very difficult to propagate. This species was named by Linnaeus.

Guttiferae family is an exclusively tropical family containing about 400 species spread among almost 35 different genera. These are trees or shrubs with resinous sap. The leaves are generally opposite or whorled, but a few species have alternate leaves. Some authors include the Hypericaceae (Hypericum group) in this family naming the larger family Clusiaceae or Guttiferae). Here  the two families are separated.
