Common name: GROMIA - BAHAMIAN
Scentific name: GROMIA SPECIES

Species Info:

This lifeform is found widely in Africa. This lifeform is found widely in Eurasia. This lifeform is found widely in the Indo-Australian region. This lifeform is widespread in North America. This lifeform is found widely in the New World tropics. This lifeform is found in freshwater such as lakes or rivers.

Gromia of large size have been discovered in the oceans near the Bahamas and have been called sea grapes. This new species, Bahamian Gromia, is the size of a grape and appears to move by slowly rolling itself along. This new animal is closely related to the amoeba.

Members of this group are like globs of jelly that have a free form shape.

Amoeboid Group (Sarcodina) (Rhizopoda-Actinopoda, or Sarcodina) contains the familiar Amoeba studied in elementary biology. There are probably over 200 species of amoeba-like animals which vary greatly in size. The largest ones, although still very small,  can be viewed with the naked eye. A one thousand power microscope is required to view some of the very tiny species. These animals extend a foot or pseudopod for locomotion.

Protista kingdom (sometimes spelled as Protoctista) contains numerous phyla including unicellular animals and algae.
