Aphyosemion rigginbachi has been placed as a form or subspecies of Aphyosemion bivittatum. The A. bivittatum complex is found in Equatorial Guinea, a tiny country found just north of the equator on the west coast of Africa.This Aphyosemion genus of fish is found in western Africa. There are perhaps several hundred species. Most of the members of this genus survive from year to year by eggs that remain viable during the dry season and then hatch with the rainy season.
Hobbyists are able to trade species in this genus by just mailing dried eggs back and forth.
