Aphyosemion striatus is found in Gabon, a small country located just north of the equator in west Africa along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The heavy orange stripes help identify this species.This Aphyosemion genus of fish is found in western Africa. There are perhaps several hundred species. Most of the members of this genus survive from year to year by eggs that remain viable during the dry season and then hatch with the rainy season.
Hobbyists are able to trade species in this genus by just mailing dried eggs back and forth.
